MS Classic Shirt in printed cotton
As you may have gathered from my feed, I don’t wear much print. I’m very very picky about the sorts of prints I like, so I usually stick to textured solids. But when fabriclore.com reached out to ask if I would be interested in trying one of their fabrics, I saw this incredible printed cotton and I immediately fell in love with it: the print reminds me so much of Twin Peaks, while also being reminiscent of the outrageous printed shirts everyone wear on the Sopranos - what else could I ask for? :’) It’s a hand block printed cotton with a very crisp yet airy feel. Since it’s printed by hand, there are some natural imperfections in the print, making it a little challenging to achieve a perfect pattern-matched look. I aimed to match the front and left pretty much everything else to chance, and ended up with near perfect results by accident! I even got a matching sleeve placket out of it! It was the luckiest sewing day ever :’) The pattern I used is my new favourite shirt pattern, the MS Classic Shirt by The Modern Sewer (currently up to a 113 cm / 44.5” bust with an expansion on the way). Just like the first one I made, I made a size 10 everywhere except the neckline & collar, which I cut in a size 6. The body is shortened by 5 cm / 2”, but I forgot to shorten the sleeves on this version. The collar is cut on fold, and I did a box pleat on the back. I’m still very, very pleased with the fit: the shoulders aren’t too narrow, the neckline isn’t too big, and the overall volume is just perfect. For more details, you can check out my first post on this pattern. I’m so excited to style this piece in different outfits: over turtlenecks and undershirts, under knit sweaters, tucked into trousers or paired with jeans… It’s such a surprisingly versatile piece!DetailsHide Details
