Creating with my hands is an absolute necessity for me - by making and selling woven textiles for everyday use I contribute my tiny share to preserve weaving as a traditional craft and cultural practice.
-
Why I Make: It fuels my curiosity, love of problem-solving, and deep need for whimsy. It provides a purpose wrapped in a bit of fun and hopefully prompts a smile.
-
It’s about the joy of making.
I’ve always messed about with wood, early days whittling sticks with a sheath knife.
building tree houses and go karts.
and now the range of tools has grown just a bit.
but still messing about.
Saving trees from the fire wood pile and making beautiful sustainable furniture from local timber from the Dart valley.
-
I make because I believe in creating something real and lasting in a world that moves too fast. For me, it’s about the process—designing, stitching, and refining until it feels just right. It’s about offering pieces that carry meaning and are made to last.
-
I make to keep my hands occupied and my mind calm. To be present in the moment and connected to the process. I make to create objects that are beautiful and useful, and to bring joy into other people’s homes.
-
I cherish the chance to search and harvest wood for carving - its deeply satisfying and deepens my relationship to the land, trees, people. Then the process of sawing and splitting fresh logs into billets, axe carving them into roughed out spoon blanks nourishes the primal soul! The journey then of carving a roughly shaped spoon into a refined utensil is deeply satisfying, refining the spoon with sharp hook knives and finishing blades is very wholesome for body and soul.
-
I make because that's what I am - a maker.
I carve wooden spoons because the wood itself is just so lovely & variable & demanding (I don't do easy!)
and a spoon is such a complicated, fascinating and infinitely variable shape...
-
Making is breathing, moving and feeling. I make because it connects me to the profound whisper of nature. Every time I pick up a piece of wood and my tools start working on it something magical happens. Making is at the very core of my experience of life.
-
Making is a way of being present in the world as I observe, learn, share, and build community through the creations that come from my hands and heart.
-
I build cowboy boots because of the combination of math, creativity, and brute force. It fills my brain, body, and my soul, and continues an American craft tradition.
-
Putting pen to paper connects me to the past. The history of those grand penmen who came before finds a home in my practice—guiding, cautioning, inspiring. I hope that one day the work that I make can likewise belong in the practice of another.
-
I have a very hard time not making things, and I always wanted a career doing so. As professional makers, sometimes I think we aren't as explicit about our pursuits as we could be, but making, and making a career, is more than having hobbies. Learning craft, developing technique, and innovating design has been the project of a lifetime.

Making , for me , is a part of who I am , my identity. I enjoy the satisfaction of exploring form and function and making pieces to be used and loved in the home - this is truth . Clay , for me, from my core memory in kindergarten in that yellow bucket , has been an adventure - and most days a new idea , a new gift of a design to explore . Who could say no to a life so full ?
-
I am committed to living a productive life, and making is essential to my well-being. I care about creating products that are thoughtfully designed and beautifully crafted. As a printmaker, I love bringing together traditional and contemporary techniques to make compelling images.
-
I make because it helps me to feel connected to the land and the world around me. It brings me deep peace and a lot of joy.
-
I make because my hands crave motion, and my mind overflows with ideas that demand to be set free

Ever since learning to knit at the age of 8 years old from a neighbor, I’ve been obsessed with everything we can make with wool and fiber. My passion for beautiful, functional crafting is something I love sharing, and as a result, it’s been a huge part of my life. I’ve had the opportunity to work for some amazing yarn companies, write two books, design dozens of patterns and continue living out my fiber dreams.
-
Making is my way of thinking about how to live. I find meaning in the physical act of making, as well as the material nature and function of pots. Making engages my mind and body, connects me with my community and gives me identity and purpose.
-
I make to stay grounded in myself, to build connections with others, and to honor the stories that bring us together. Through these crafts I celebrate the relationships we value, the stories we share, and the beauty in life’s simple, meaningful moments.
-
It's really simple - making makes me happy. It doesn't matter what I make so much as that I am creating things with my hands. Exploring new materials and ideas scratches an invisible itch and gives me joy. If someone can use what I make in a functional way, it's just that much better.
-
I make physical things to balance my actions between my internal and external energies. I feel the imbalance deeply when I'm in my head too much, and also when I'm in a frenzy making and fixing things without introspection and philosophizing. It can be a struggle to keep that balance, but vital for me. I also wonder, more recently, if making is an easier way for me to connect with others, through an object, rather than directly in language.
-
In essence my work is a celebration of craftsmanship and artistry, showcasing the beauty and versatility of wood as a medium. My passion lies in designing and creating pieces that can be functional and or simply uniquely artistic. I work with solid wood and veneers and each project is a unique opportunity to apply classic and contemporary woodworking techniques to modern aesthetics.
-
I weave to express the ideas in my mind’s eye, revealing the potential of the materials and exploring the endless possibilities of the technique. It’s a constant learning process; to make something beautiful is an act of knowledge.
-
I make because of what it gives to me. It’s instructive, it’s generous and it’s a window to the inside world. It is the best way I have to learn what I’m capable of and what my limitations are.
-
While I make books and tools with durability in mind, I make for the process. I don’t get to keep the end product, but I hold on to the fulfillment I find in the making, though it slips though my fingers at each project's completion.

Macrame is mindfulness and creativity through the art of knotting.
I love to lose myself in the flow and rhythm of knotting and weaving emotions, ideas and hope in my work.
-
Object making is integral to who I am and how I’ve designed my life. The connection I've built with clay is something I never imagined - it is deep and unwavering. Clay has taught me patience and given me great joy.
-
I create quilts and art because I am compelled to work with my hands and engage my mind in the act of creation. Making is both a necessity and a meditation, all in an effort to infuse everyday life with intention, care, and artistry.
-
I make to connect with myself and my world. To re-establish the dwindling relationship between human and nature and time. Each piece an investment in the present moment, shaping and refining the material and the self, to better connect with a creative life.

I have always made things. I had the best Grandma with kind gentle Grandma's hands that showed me so many different crafts. From her I learnt how to occupy my mind with meaningful and enriching tasks which have become a way of life. She also taught me the importance of a good walk and then to sit on the hill and listen to the birds.
I taught Design Technology for many years, exploring mosaic making when i had time, but for the last 7 years it has become my most favourite artform and I love its endless possibilities.
I've just become a Grandma and my hands are ready to pass on what they know
