#whywemake
Making is a way of being present in the world as I observe, learn, share, and build community through the creations that come from my hands and heart.I am a mixed media artist who works primarily in textiles, but I also actively work in hand-made books, hand-made paper, and printmaking.
Most of my work is hand- and machine- embroidered using commercial and hand-dyed fabrics and threads. It is often informed by and built upon the traditional practice of Stumpwork, which was a form of dimensional embroidery common in late 17th century Britain. I am inspired by nature, and most especially birds.
I hold a Diploma from City & Guilds of London Creative Studies in Design and Embroidery, and I am a member of the Focus on Book Arts Conference board.
