#whywemake

In essence my work is a celebration of craftsmanship and artistry, showcasing the beauty and versatility of wood as a medium. My passion lies in designing and creating pieces that can be functional and or simply uniquely artistic. I work with solid wood and veneers and each project is a unique opportunity to apply classic and contemporary woodworking techniques to modern aesthetics.

Exceptional craftsmanship

Ralph Reichenbach is a self-taught artist, furniture maker, and designer with a rich family legacy in woodworking. Ralph’s journey began in his father’s workshop, where he cultivated his passion for the art form from a young age. He attended NAIT in the cabinet-making program, graduated top in his class, and continued as an instructor for two years.

His work seamlessly blends traditional and modern techniques with contemporary design, resulting in pieces that are both aesthetically pleasing and functionally practical. While mastering fine workmanship and meticulous attention to detail through dedicated learning, he also brings innate qualities that set his work apart—such as an intuitive understanding of materials and a deep passion for his craft. Inspired by the natural world, each creation showcases his exceptional talent and reflects his deep respect for the world he lives in.

His work has been purchased by collectors worldwide and featured in several galleries and shows, including the Alberta Craft Council Gallery and the former TU Gallery of Edmonton, Alberta.  He has taught many workshops on marquetry and a variety of different furniture design workshops at NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology). Many apprentices have been employed under his leadership from the NAIT cabinet-making program in his custom veneer door and panel manufacturing business. Additionally, he recently founded Bay 1 Gallery in 2020, a local venue highlighting a curated selection of local furniture designers/makers and visual artists.
