#whywemake
I make to connect with myself and my world. To re-establish the dwindling relationship between human and nature and time. Each piece an investment in the present moment, shaping and refining the material and the self, to better connect with a creative life. The Grain Mill was born from a hobby turned obsession. What began with turning tap handles for my home kegerator has escalated to intricate vessels and forms turned from local, ethically sourced woods in my home of Spokane, WA. Everything I create is made by me alone in my garage workshop and at my dining table. And while I wish I could devote all my time to creation, I am also a brewer at Uprise Brewing, a husband, and a father.Â
My work is inspired by nearly everything around me both physically and digitally. I particularly enjoy creating forms inspired by ancient potters and sculptors, trying especially to capture the age and weathering that an old form would have. My pieces are all left natural or finished with food/skin safe finishes. While everything I make is a manifestation of ongoing creative energy, I always appreciate those who take the time to see my work and support my side hustle. Cheers!
