#whywemake

I have a very hard time not making things, and I always wanted a career doing so.  As professional makers, sometimes I think we aren't as explicit about our pursuits as we could be, but making, and making a career, is more than having hobbies.  Learning craft, developing technique, and innovating design has been the project of a lifetime.

Bespoke Glass is a studio-based business founded in Brooklyn, NY producing customizable and readymade stained glass & tile. All of the glass is cut by hand, using simple hand tools and a mix of centuries-old techniques with a modern approach. The studio approaches stained glass differently than most studios, striving to create crafted objects that are about more than the light passing through. Bespoke aims to make things you've never seen before that will fit into your life/space on your terms. /// Bespoke Glass is the project of Lesley Green.  Originally from Western New York State, I have a BFA from Alfred University and a MSc in Architectural Conservation from the Edinburgh College of Art, and I have lived & worked in Portland, Prague, Edinburgh, NYC, Phoenix, and currently in the Hudson Valley of NY.  Previous to founding Bespoke Glass, as well as in early years, I worked in various areas of the glass industry, including: sheet glass production & head of samples dept (Uroboros Glass Studios, RIP), as a coldworker for JGoodDesign, and at a prominent NY-based mosaic studio I will decline to name as they are notorious self-googling design stealers. I’m extremely excited to be back in New York, and in March 2025 I’ll be in a fantastic new studio in Kingston.
