We Make

Questioning “Pro”

We’re launching a premium plan for makers who sell their work. Would you help us think about the name?

Maybe Pro is a little too cool?

We’ve planned to use Pro as the title for the upcoming subscription because the new tools generally benefit makers who sell their work. But, for a community of small scale makers, does it feel a little too slick? Also, do some makers simply not relate to the term?

A few reference points

We’re plain spoken
We Make has a fairly neutral voice that can accommodate a spectrum of makers’ work, from quirky to serious.

We’re all about connection
This is a community space not a competitive marketplace.

We’re different (when we need to be)
We’re doing things that support us as makers whether it looks like other well-known models or not.

What’s in the paid plan

The biggest feature is the ability for makers to add off-site For Sale links to their posts. Other features include the space to make announcements (for upcoming sales, events, etc), in-post links, priority customer support, plus all future features. (We’ll be sharing more on all these soon.)

A couple ideas to kick things off

One (conventional) idea: “Maker Plus” feels clear

Maker Plus
It’s recognizable as a subscription name and it complements the standard (free) Maker accounts nicely. Honestly, “Maker Pro” could do something similar and is warmer than just “Pro” by itself.

Market
The term Market feels good (as in “craft market,” though not so much as “the market”). One potential concern is that we won’t actually be a marketplace at first—the For Sale links will go to makers’ own websites or other sales platforms. Would that part be confusing? (Thanks for the idea, Katie!)
